Solar Energy Assistance

WesMin RC&D is assisting the Rural Renewable Energy Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to making renewable energy accessible to people of all income levels.

Many Central Minnesota families are unable to provide adequate winter heating for themselves, creating program dependency on Energy Assistance programs.

With $73 Million spent annually in Minnesota on Energy Assistance and Weatherization and  more than 110,000 households served, the recurring problem of financial dependence for winter heating is apparent.  The Solar Energy Assistance project addresses this issue with a long-term solution by installing solar heating systems on households qualifying for Energy Assistance, benefiting people through; reduction of fossil fuel emissions, thereby improving air and water quality; reduction of heating costs; and grid-independent systems that will provide heating even in power failure.
